Nicknamed "Mr. Conservative", Barry Goldwater was a Senator from Arizona from 1953 until 1965 and was also the Republican Party's Presidential nominee in 1964. He opposed Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies as well as President Johnson's Great Society. He is credited with resurging conservatism in the United States and is hailed by conservatives and libertarians today as a great statesmen.
